This is a Military Occupation.
Folks outside of Minneapolis, call your Senators and Reps. This is a military occupation. I am shaking with fatigue and it is 7:45am. I am especially pleading with you to call if you have Republican reps of any kind, at any level.
This is my experience since Renee Good was murdered, in my neighborhood alone.
1. Called in a suspected ICE vehicle Saturday after they blew a stop sign by my house. Legal observers followed and the agent got out of their car, hand on gun, and shouted “Haven’t you learned anything from the last few days?”
2. My daughter goes to a Spanish Immersion daycare with teachers who all have legal status. Anyone watching the internet knows that status doesn’t matter for jack shit so we’ve been watching the daycare, driving teachers, organizing, coordinating legal needs, fundraising. A cook at our sister location got abducted last Wednesday and almost immediately flown to Texas, a more favorable jurisdiction for this Nazi regime.
3. Bought a cake and flan for a teacher-parent organizing meeting (cover was that it was Terin’s birthday party) from a bakery on Lake Street who said she made $19 in sales the day before- she’s not sure how she’s going to pay rent or her bills. The businesses around her are shuttered. Our local taco shop is requesting constant eyes because ICE has been casing them. Our local Mexican grocery store keeps its doors locked.
4. The tiny Latino church on the corner of our block has requested people to watch at service times and my neighbors reported children huddling inside the door of the church, waiting until their parents pulled up right out front so they could dash to their vehicles.
5. The helicopters- so triggering for anyone who was here in 2020- are constant. I am hallucinating honking at this point.
6. Yesterday, just between 11am and 1pm, ICE tried to kidnap people at an apartment building three blocks from my house (didn't succeed thanks to a huge observer response), abducted a neighbor on Lake Street within two blocks of my house, and then five minutes later abducted a neighbor and an observer three blocks from my house, so violently that the restaurant where the observer worked across the street closed for the rest of the day.
Fucking call your reps. This is deadly serious and unsustainable.
